Welfare Officer

(Voluntary Role)

We are looking to expand our Welfare Team and could you be in a position to support us. Some of the duties of a Welfare Officer could include:

  • Embedding safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Club has a child centred approach throughout

  • Welfare Officers are the first point of contact for club staff and volunteers, young people and parents for any issue concerning safeguarding, poor practice, or potential/alleged abuse

  • Ensure that all incidents are correctly recorded, reported, and referred out in accordance with British Gymnastics (or home nation equivalent) guidelines

  • Ensure that all relevant club members access appropriate safeguarding training

  • Ensure that British Gymnastics (or home nation equivalent) safe recruitment procedures of staff and volunteers are in place

  • Maintain local contact details for Children’s Social Care Services, the Police and Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCB)

  • Advise club management on safeguarding issues

  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained and information is only shared on a genuine ‘need to know’ basis

  • Ensure safeguarding is an agenda item for all club meetings

Inclusive Co-Ordinator (Maternity Cover)

Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you enjoy working with special populations? Then we may have the perfect job for you. We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic coach to initially cover Maternity leave with the option for extension. The post is initially for March 2023 through to January 2024 application must have the following attributes:

  • Willingness to work with children and adults with disabilities

  • Motivated and enthusiastic in sports

  • Excellent communication skills with children, adults, volunteers, parents, carers and staff members

  • The person must have good organisational skills, is reliable and has good time keeping skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a team

  • Willingness to learn

  • Good written and verbal skills

  • You must be enthusiastic and passionate about inspiring others

  • Level 2 in General/ MAG/ WAG

  • Current DBS

  • Safeguarding qualification

Disability Apprentice

Job Overview

If you enjoy working with children and young people with disabilities and are passionate about being active- we want to hear from you! We are looking for a disability apprentice who would work 30-35 hours a week. The aim of the apprentice programme is to provide both clubs and individuals with the opportunity of full-time careers in the sport, and to continue developing high quality coaching and club operations.

This role would be to support the existing disability programme and take a lead on the disability programme. Working hours includes evenings and Saturday work with competitions and events on occasional Sundays. You will be expected to work with all age ranges from early years, children, teenagers, adults and the elderly. The individual has to have a willingness to learn within a busy environment. The club will support the individual in gaining experience in coaching gymnastics along with disability gymnastics, support them in gaining their apprenticeship qualifications and being part of a team.

The individual would have support from the club, British Gymnastics and the apprenticeship provider, additional British Gymnastics Coaching Qualification and Apprenticeship Qualifications will be gained

About the Apprenticeship

Apprentices will be based at Waveney Gymnastics Club for day to day work duties and coaching, although apprentices would undertake long distance learning with regular visits from assessors in their workplace, alongside two practical and theory based residentials at Lilleshall National Sport Centre. The programme will run in partnership with Bridgwater & Taunton College, who have delivered apprenticeships since 2006. Working with the college provides an opportunity to deliver a complete apprenticeship offer where the apprentice can achieve either a nationally recognised qualification or membership of an appropriate professional institution, alongside bespoke gymnastics training. Apprentices can choose to study either, the Level 2 Community Activator Coach Standard, the Level 3 Community Sport and Health Officer Standard, or, BRAND NEW this year, the Level 4 Sports Coach with a choice of pathways. Each apprenticeship standard includes a relevant British Gymnastics Coaching Qualification too.

 The Person

The following person would demonstrate the following qualities:

Essential

  • Willingness to work with children and adults with disabilities

  • Motivated and enthusiastic in sports

  • Excellent communication skills with children, adults, volunteers, parents, carers and staff members

  • The person must have good organisational skills, is reliable and has good time keeping skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a team

  • Willingness to learn

  • Good written and verbal skills

  • You must be enthusiastic and passionate about inspiring others

Desirable

  • Basic Level of English and Maths

  • Prior experience with children and adults with disabilities

  • Level one or two British Gymnastics Coaching Qualification

  • Basic knowledge of Makaton or British Sign Language

  • First Aid Qualification

  • Safeguarding Qualification

  • Holds a UK Driving Licence

  • Any disability qualifications that enhances knowledge and understanding of disabilities

No Prior coaching experience is required but a willingness to learn, develop and challenge yourself is essential. Part and Full Time Coaching Positions

We are looking to recruit friendly, enthusiastic, energetic & fun coaches to join our coaching team on both a part time or full time basis. The role will involve delivering dynamic and progressive sessions to a wide range of ages and abilities, developing gymnasts to a high level and to develop yourself though coaching courses and continuing professional development.

The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A strong working ethos and passion to help all gymnasts fulfil their potential

  • Excellent communication skills

  • The ability work co-operatively within a team

  • Excellent time keeping and reliability

  • Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative

  • Willingness to develop new skills and commit to training opportunities
